T Shirt Crafts

T shirt crafts are fun, easy and quick. Great for all ages. They make great gifts and they sell well too! We'll show you everything you need to do this project!

What You Will Need

A shirt
Fabric paint
A sponge and/or a paintbrush
A piece of cardboard or form to put inside the t shirt.
Stencils.
Packing tape or duct tape.

Stretch your shirt out over a piece of cardboard or form of some type. You do not just want to lay the t shirt down and start painting. Paint goes through the shirt as it is drying. You do not want the front and the back of the shirt stuck together with paint.

Lay your stencil on your shirt. Use packing tape or duct tape to securely hold the stencil in place. Paint small areas of the stencil at a time.

Use your free hand to hold the edges near stencils cutout area. This will help so that the middle of the stencil is laying completely flat on your shirt as you paint. You may apply the paint directly to the shirt or onto your sponge. We like using a sponge to apply the paint rather than a paintbrush. A sponge is easy to use to dab the paint.

If you use a paintbrush, be careful not to stretch the t shirt when you make your brush strokes. If you you use a sponge, know that you do not have to push the paint very hard into the t shirt. If you push to hard with the sponge or drag your paintbrush, the paint will bleed underneath the stencil. This will not give you a clean finished design.

Let the paint dry for about 30 minutes before you remove the stencil. If you want your paint to dry faster, use a hair dryer or a fan to speed up the drying process.

Once the paint is dry to the touch, you can remove the stencil. Depending on the design, you maybe moving the same stencil around the shirt. Be careful not to lay a stencil on freshly dried paint. It takes several hours or overnight for paint to completely dry.
