Pillow Craft

Here is a easy pillow craft that kids and adults can do! Use it by itself or make a coordinating blanket or throw to go with it.

What You Will Need

Two pieces of fleece material. 1 yard of fleece is enough to cover one standard size pillow. We suggest one piece be a solid color and the other piece be a pattern. But you can choose to have the top and bottom of the pillow cover match if you like. Fabric needs to be 2 inches wider than your pillow form.

A standard size pillow form or pillow form size of your choice.

Sharp scissors

Straight pins

A tape measure

A marker. This can be pencil, chalk or a pen.

Pillow Craft Instructions

Put your two pieces of material together. The back sides of each piece of material should be together. Lay your material out flat. Both pieces of material should be the exact same size. If they are not the same size, use your scissors to trim the edges so that both pieces of material are the same size.

Two simple straight sewn lines makes this pillow craft easy!

Make the seam 1/4-1/2 inch from the edge of the material. Measure six inches up from the edge and begin sewing a straight line. Stop six inches from the edge at the other end. It does not matter what color of thread that you use to sew the two edges with. If you are a beginner, use straight pins to hold the material together while you sew. This will prevent the two pieces of material from slipping away from each other.

Turn your material right side out and you are ready to tie knots on both ends.

Tieing The Fringe

Take a one inch strip of fringe. Begin by holding the top and the bottom pieces of the pillow cover together. Put your finger under the material, the material now goes around your finger and underneath. Push the material up through the knot...like tying a necktie. Use your fingers to push the knot up to the top of your cut. This kind of knot will allow the pillow cover fringe to lay flat.

Tie 8-10 knots. Then go back and gently stretch your material between the knots. This will keep the fringe from puckering up as you go. Fleece is a very forgiving material and easy to work with.

When you are finished tying one side, put your pillow form inside of your cover. Now, repeat the fringe tying on the opposite side that you just finished.

When you are done, lay your finished pillow cover out flat. Take the time to push up each knot and stretch your material out so that your pillow cover looks even when you are done.
