No Sew Fleece Blanket Instructions

Here is the fun to make, and popular, no sew fleece blanket instructions. Kids can make them they are so easy! They make great gifts to give too. The young to the old can make these beautiful tie blankets.

What You Will Need

Two pieces of fleece material. Each piece of fleece should be 2 yards in length. We suggest one piece be a solid color and the other piece be a pattern. But you can choose to have the top and bottom of the blanket match if you like. Fabric needs to be at least 40 inches wide.

Sharp scissors

Straight pins

A tape measure

A marker. This can be pencil, chalk or a pen.

Put your two pieces of material together. The back sides of each piece of material should be together. Lay your material out flat. Both pieces of material should be the exact same size. If they are not the same size, use your scissors to trim the edges so that both pieces of material are the same size.

Now, use your straight pins to periodically pin the two pieces of material together. This will prevent the material from slipping when you cut and tie them together.

Next, cut out a six inch square in each of the four corners. Be sure to cut through both pieces of material. Now pick a side of the blanket to work on. We are going to cut fringe.

With your material laying flat. Take a marker and mark the material six inches up from the edge. Lay your tape measure on the material. You are now going to cut one inch strips all the way along one side. Each strip that you cut is to be six inches long and one inch wide.

When cutting your fringe you can start at one edge of your blanket and cut one inch strips until you get to the other edge. We prefer to find the middle of the side that you are working on. Make your first cut. Then, from your cut to the edge of the blanket, find the middle. Make a six inch cut. Between the two cuts, start making your one inch fringe strips. Tie these knots.

By cutting in sections, your blanket will be very even.

Tieing The Fringe

Take a one inch strip of fringe. Begin by holding the top and the bottom pieces of the blanket together. Put your finger under the material, the material now goes around your finger and underneith. Push the material up through the knot...like tieing a necktie. Use your fingers to push the knot up to the top of your cut. This kind of knot will allow the blanket to lay flat.

Tie 8-10 knots. Then go back and gently stretch your material between the knots. This will keep the blank from puckering up as you go. Fleece is a very forgiving material and easy to work with.

When you are finished with one side, repeat the process on the opposite side that you just finished. When the second side is done, go to a third side of the blanket and repeat the process. Then cut and tie the final side of the blanket.

When you are done, lay your finished blanket out. Take the time to push up each knot and stretch your material out so that your blanket looks even when you are done. Remove any straight pins that are in the blanket. The blanket gets softer each time you wash it!

No Sew Fleece Blanket Instructions...With Just A Little Bit Of Sewing!

After making several blankets, we really like to sew two of the four sides. Why? Because it makes the blanket 12 inches wider! Two simple straight sewn lines makes this blanket even better!

If you choose to sew two of the four sides, then put the right sides of the material together. Depending on how rough the edges of the material is, make the seam 1/4-1/2 inch from the edge of the material. Measure six inches up from the edge and begin sewing a straight line. Stop six inches from the edge at the other end. It does not matter what color of thread that you use to sew the two edges with. If you are a beginner, use straight pins to hold the material together while you sew. This will prevent the two pieces of material from slipping away from each other.

Note: If you decide to sew two sides, do not cut the six inch squares out of each corner.

After two of the four sides are sewn, turn the material right side out. Now follow the instructions above for cutting and tieing the fringe for two sides of the blanket.

No Sew Fleece Blanket Instructions Tips

If you want to make a blanket for a baby or a young child, one yard of material is enough.

Kids love making their own blankets. They do great tieing one side a night. Go back and push their knots up nice and tight when they are done. Then stretch the blanket out flat between the knots so that the blanket doesn't pucker.
