Mothers Day Craft Idea

Here is a great Mothers Day Craft idea. You can make it in about one hour. All ages can make this craft. The finished candle sells very well at craft fairs and makes a great gift to give anytime of the year.

We made 70 of these and gave them as gifts! We also sold them at our boutique and every last one sold. You can make these for about $6.00 a piece.

Supplies Needed:

A battery operated flameless candle
A sheet of music or a copy of a sheet of music
Old jewelry
Tacky glue (We used Jewelry E-6000 glue)
Pliers
2 rubber bands
Scissors

Instructions For Your Mothers Day Craft Idea

Take your scissors and cut your sheet of music to fit around your candle. The music needs to cover most of the candle, but it doesn't have to go all the way around the candle.

Evenly spread a thin layer of glue on the back side of your sheet of music. (Do not use hot glue or it will melt the wax candle) Put the sheet of music on your candle. Take two rubber bands and put them around the sheet of music until the glue is dry. Let it sit for about 30 minutes.

Once the sheet music is stuck to your candle, it is time to decorate your candle. Be as creative as you would like. Use your pliers to take jewelry apart. Earrings are great to use because you can just push them into the candle. Necklaces, broaches, and bracelets are great for decorating.

It is nice to border the top and bottom of the sheet music with a string of beads. Long dangling earrings work great in one corner. Glue all of your decorations on with your glue and then set it aside to dry.

When all your decorations are on your candle and they are stuck on well, add the batteries to your candle. Your all done!

Other ideas

We took a paint brush and painted on some leaves on our sheet music when we were done. It just added a nice touch. If your not good with a paint brush and you feel like it needs a little something more, you could stamp a design onto your sheet music.

If you didn't want to use sheet music, you could use a picture that you printed off the computer. Or a photograph would work well too.

Great Gifts

Young kids and adults can make these candles. They make a great gift. Our candle has a switch on the bottom of it. The switch has three positions. the first position shuts the battery operated candle off. The second position turns the candle on. The third position is a timer. If we put it in the third position, the candle turns on every day at the same time and stays on for 5 hours and then turns itself off. It does this everyday so you can set it and leave it! Our candle cost us $4 at Costco.

Isn't this a great Mothers Day craft idea? We gave these to mothers and they were a huge hit. But we soon found out even kids like to receive them. Because they are flameless, they are safe. But this simple craft idea also is perfect for Valentines Day, Christmas, Birthdays, a Thank You gift...well, you get the idea :)
