Making Sachets

You only need three things when making sachets. They can be made in a variety of ways and they can be made in minutes.

Supplies Needed:

A filling (such as lavender, Dried roses, or cedar chips)

A mesh bag or pouch

Ribbon

Sachets can be made of different materials. You can use a bag, a lacey glove, a handkerchief or sew your own pouch from your favorite material.

If your going to sew your own pouch, a piece of material 12 inches wide by 10 inches high makes a good size for a sachet.

You can fill your sachet with a scent that is pleasing to you. You can increase the fragrance of your sachet by adding a few drops of your favorite essential oil. You can purchase ready made potpourris or make your own. Here are some ideas to fill your sachet with:

Wood shavings (cedar is a favorite!)

Dried flower petals and leaves

Dried berries

Lavender

Eucalyptus leaves

Thyme

Lemon grass

Mint

Dried citrus peels

Rosemary

Cloves

Cinnamon sticks

Bay leaves

Dried roses

Take the mixture of your choice and fill your sachet 3/4 of the way full. If your filling a handkerchief, gather up the sides and twist tight. If you have a sachet with a draw string, draw the string closed and tie. This will keep your sachet from opening on its own.

Use a pretty string or ribbon to cover up the tied part of your sachet. You can even embellish the ribbon by adding a few beads. To jazz up your sachet even more, you can add silk flowers to it. Just put a touch of hot glue to make your flowers hold in place.

Sewing A Sachet

Making sachets are inexpensive and easy. Hang one on a hanger in your closet, place one in a drawer, or special box that contains your special things. Attach one to a wrapped present or give it as a gift. Display one a on a hook or set one on a bookshelf.br>
