How To Make A Snowflake

Below are instructions on how to make a snowflake. Once you learn how to do this, you can vary the size of paper that you use and make different sizes of snowflakes. Elementary age children can make these, they are that easy! Teenagers can make them to decorate their rooms or the school gym. These are fun for all ages!

Supplies That You Will Need

6 pieces of 8.5 X 11 paper
Scissors
Tape
Stapler

Instructions For How To Make A Snowflake

Fold each of your six pieces of paper into a square. Do this by bringing the top left hand corner of your paper over to the opposite edge. Crease the paper. Use your scissors to cut off the rectangle piece of paper that is now at the bottom of your square. You now have a square piece of paper with a crease running diagonally.

Take each of your six squares and fold them into a triangle. Make creases on the lines that you just created. Now open up the paper up. Cut three lines on each side of the creases. Cut long lines but stop before you get to the crease. Cut your lines at an angle. Now your paper kind of looks like a Christmas tree! Do this to all six of your papers.

Unfold each of your triangle papers. Take the middle cuts and bring them together. This will make a roll (think of a burrito!) Use your tape to hold the roll together. Do this on all six of your papers.

Now, flip your square papers that have a roll in the middle over. Take the next two cuts and bring the edges together to make another roll. Secure the roll with tape. Do this to all six of your papers.

Flip your squares over and take the third cut and bring the two edges into a roll. Hold that roll together with tape. Do this on all six of your papers. You now should have three rolls on each of your six papers with a square around them.

Flip each of your six squares over and bring the edges of the big square together to make your last roll. Secure the roll with a piece of tape. Do this on all six of your papers. Now, each of your papers should look like a beautiful cone!

Take three of your finished cone shaped papers and staple the tips of them together. Take your other three coned shaped papers and bring the tips together and staple them as well. Now you have two sets of papers. It's beginning to look like a big floppy snowflake!

Now, take and staple each side of the cone snowflakes to the snowflake that is next to it. Do this all the way around, putting your two sets together. You now have a snowflake that is 22 inches round and beautiful! Now you know how to make a 3d snowflake!

How To Make A Snowflake A Little Bit Differently

Use colored or designed papers to make your snowflake a little different. Add a little bit of glue and glitter to make it sparkle. Begin with a smaller piece of paper to make a smaller snowflake. Hang it on your Christmas tree or from the ceiling. Display it in the window or add it to a package. Whatever you do...just have fun making oodles of snowflakes!
